It is believed that our living bodies radiate warmth and energy—life force energy. Throughout our lives, our life force energy can become clouded and diminished by life’s challenges, pain and suffering, loss, and even personal beliefs. One such remedy in existence that combats these adverse effects of life’s oppositions, effectively and painlessly, is known as Reiki.
Reiki, also recognized in various cultures by different names, including Orenda to the Native American Iriquois, Prana in India, Ch’i in China, and Ki in Japan, from which the term Reiki is derived, is a touch healing technique used to channel Universe life energy through a Reiki healer to the willful recipient. A person attuned as a Reiki healer has has her body’s energy channels cleared of obstructions through the attunements, thus enabling herself to serve as a conduit and channel limitless amounts of Universe life force energy directly. In addition to traditional in-person Reiki healing sessions, Parallel Healing also offers the following forms of Reiki healing:
- Distance Reiki
- Reiki for Pets – yes, animals can benefit from Reiki’s healing powers too!
- Reiki Visitation Sessions – upon request, Kristin travels to homes, hospitals, and hospice facilities to share her Reiki blessings with those who are immobilized.
Reiki healing sessions are intended to clear obstructions in a person’s seven major Chakras. A brief overview of each Chakra is discussed below:
Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)
The Crown Chakra, also known as Sahasrara, meaning “a thousand petals”, is located at the top of the head, slightly to the back of the highest point of the skull. It is physically associated with the pineal gland and is responsible for people’s connection with spirituality, the Source energy, inner wisdom, and death of the body. Typically represented by the color violet or white, the Crown Chakra symbolized the balance of duality within each of us and one’s ability to experience super-consciousness, followed by an indescribable state of bliss known as transcendental consciousness.
Brow Chakra (Ajna)
The Brow Chakra or Ajna, meaning “servant” or “command” is also referred to as the Third-Eye Chakra. Located just between and slightly above the eyebrows, key issues revolving around the Brow Chakra include the maintaining of balance between the higher and lower selves and trusting one’s inner guidance. The chakra of psychic perception, it is referred to as a Power Center for both woman and man, symbolizing the birth of personal realities. Associated with the pituitary gland on a physical level, the Brow Chakra is represented by the color indigo.
Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)
The Throat Chakra or Vishuddha, meaning “to purify”, is located at the base of the neck between the collarbone and larynx. Associated with the thyroid and parathyroid glands, the Throat Chakra is responsible for self-expression, communication, and will. Emotions are expressed from within here, as well as creativity. It’s color is light blue. Considered to be an important bridge between the heart and crown of the head, it is believed that most people’s throats are in need of healing because speaking out in today’s world is perceived as risky behavior. Typical symptoms of a blocked Throat Chakra include sore throat, thyroid problems, and even throat cancer.
Heart Chakra (Anahata)
The Heart Chakra, also known as Anahata meaning “unstruck note” in Tantric teachings is considered to be a gateway to higher consciousness. Depicted as either green or rose in color, the Heart Chakra is located at the center of the chest on the sternum. It is associated physically with the heart organ or thymus gland and is responsible for passion, tenderness, inner-child issues, and rejection. Universal love and love for the others, as well as emotions, are believed to be conceived from the heart, thus giving further support to the aforementioned key issues revolving around this particular chakra. Modern day symptoms of a Heart Chakra in need of healing include heartache, heartbreak, and physical heart conditions.
Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)
The Solar Plexus Chakra or Manipura, which translates into “place of gems” or “shining like a pearl” is considered the place where energy moving through the body is centrally gathered then distributed throughout the rest of the body. Like the Brow Chakra, it too is a Power Center for both woman and man. Physically, the Solar Plexus Chakra corresponds to the pancreas gland or liver since it’s believed that food is absorbed here. Its color is bright yellow—a connection to energy symbolized by the sun. Health issues, as a result of a clouded Solar Plexus Chakra include digestive-related problems, food issues, and alcoholism.
Sacral Chakra (Svadisthana)
The Sacral Chakra, or Svadisthana can be translated as “ones sweetest adobe” or “one’s own place”. Located a few inches below the naval, its key issues involve relationships, violence, and addictions. Its color is orange. Often referred to as the core of self-expression and joy, the Sacral Chakra is concerned with assimilation of food and sexual declaration, as well as ideas and creativity. The Sacral Center is the uterus in women and the spleen in men, connoting purification. Healing performed in this area is associated with sexuality or fertility issues and past abuse.
Root Chakra (Muladhara)
The Root Chakra or Muladhara, is also known as the Base Chakra, among other names. Located between the anus and genitals, its color is vibrant red. Considered in the East to be the Gateway of Life and Death, the Root Chakra is the place of birth and rebirth. Its key issues concern sexuality, lust, and obsession, while its physically associated with the adrenal glands. Responsible for “grounding” or “rooting” us to the Earth, the Root Chakra enables us to draw abundance from the planet; it is a Survival Center. Maintaining synchronization with the electromagnetic frequencies of the Earth brings balance to our physical bodies, thus keeping the Root Chakra clear and vibrant. Healing associated with the Root Chakra revolves around the desire for basic necessities such as sustenance, shelter, and clothing to the aspiration of living and dying, maintaining stability or being “grounded”, and existing on the earthplane.
